This is a series of Posts for the FAQ of those seeking Spiritual Direction. We will be adding to this series along with links to other sites that may help provide more answers.
Blessings to you, our friends in Christ,
Finding a Catholic spiritual director is a challenge for sure, even for us who are spiritual directors, no less finding one that is available and is a match to what you are looking for such as experience, training, tradition and others basics such as a personality fit.
Here at Catholic Spiritual Directors we are seeking opportunities to provide ministry resources to support directors; and due to many requests, now provide listings of programs, organizations, and individual spiritual directors who have registered, provided credentials and references.
Where to start?
Call first:
Your Parish Priest
Your Diocese
Nearest Retreat Center, Seminary, or university's Campus Ministry or Newman Center
Next Look Up:
Registry Members of Catholic Spiritual Directors
Next Contact:
Contact the Spiritual Direction Training Programs (to volunteer - students need experience)
What to ask and look for?
Inquire about their formal education, formational training, additional certificates, spiritual life, how they practice, current availability, and stipend fees.
Ask about if they do or would follow the Ethical Guidelines for a Catholic Spiritual Director listed here in our site.
